Carbon sequestration and storage in the soil are enhanced when a recovering grassland is given sufficient rest periods to regenerate, increase its vegetation cover, boost organic matter levels, and strengthen the soil’s capacity to store carbon over time.
This is primarily achieved through planned rotational grazing, in which the movement of livestock and the rest periods for the pasture are carefully managed to promote pasture recovery, improve water infiltration, strengthen soil resilience, and maintain optimal conditions for carbon sequestration and storage.
In northern Mexico, this approach already has a significant public reference, as Verra approved 3.03 million removal credits for the Boomitra Grassland Restoration in Northern Mexico project, which is the largest issuance of its kind to date and the first in North America under the VM0042 methodology. Within that same regional context, R3H is part of Cohort 2 of this major initiative.
